We are looking for a Design and Project Engineer for a contract position based with our client in Stoke

Immediate start available (subject to interview process)

Day rate: £400 to £450 per day (depending on experience and skillset)

Purpose of Role

* Aid in achieving the company's business goals through the effective design of solutions for clients, project management and driving projects through to completion and customer satisfaction.
* Deliver design services to support business development and operational functions.
* Provide technical and engineering support and assistance to other functions within and external to the business.
* Develop and maintain good internal relationships to ensure project deliverables are achieved in a timely manner.
* Identify design team requirements, including necessary resources and skills.
* Ensure quality performance levels are maintained in line with company targets.
* Ensure output levels are maintained in line with company targets.
* Day-to-day management of external contractors, providing input into projects.

Major Accountabilities

Design and Project Management

* Ensure designs are focused towards achieving the estimated costing of the project.
* Ensure lead times for completing designs are in line with client expectations.
* Ensure all structural calculations are correct, taking external advice where necessary.
* Ensure all drawings meet required standards prior to issue for manufacture.
* Ensure engineering solutions meet the client's requirements and project delivery dates and costs.
* Ensure quality levels are measured and reported.
* Ensure output levels are measured and reported.

Preparation of Quotations

* Establish client requirements and provide input into solutions as required.
* Prepare concept drawings for use during the sales process.
* Provide project costing estimates prior to quotation.

Project & Design Review

* Attend Design Review meetings as required, both internally and at client sites.
* Report on progress and results against agreed goals.
* Promptly address any exceptions and immediately flag significant problems or project slippages to Senior Management.

Measurable Objectives

* Financial - Design lead time versus quoted time.
* Productivity - Design lead time versus actual lead time.
* Quality Performance - First Time Right percentage and volume of non-conformances.
* On-Time Delivery - Actual versus latest agreed dates.
* Employee Capabilities & Versatility - Identify training requirements and ensure training is completed to plan.

Standards

* Comply fully with and maintain company business procedures, quality standards, Health & Safety regulations, housekeeping and information systems within the scope of the position.
* Work with the Quality Assurance team to develop any new standards required by major clients.

Competences Required of Job Holder:

* Education - Whilst Formal Qualifications are important, this role demands experience and product knowledge.
* Driving experience & ability to travel to client and supplier sites, as required
* International Travel where required.
* Relevant product application and industry sector knowledge
* Experience of working in/with manufacturing/engineering industry.
* Proven management leadership and communication skills
* Detailed design engineering capabilities
* Engineering, design, draughting and manufacturing process appreciation
* Project planning and management skills
* IT skills - incl. MS Office suite, MS Project & file management
* CAD Software (AutoCAD, Solidworks (preferred) etc)
* Communication skills - written & verbal
* Time management and 5S methodologies
* Product and factory Health & Safety standards - incl. working at height, etc.
