We are looking for an Assistant Engineer for a permanent position based with our client in Hull
Immediate start available (Subject to interview process)
Salary is £33,000 per annum (depending on experience)
This will be working Monday to Friday - 6:30am till 4:30pm (with occasional weekends in line with operations)
Expectations
Operating as a key member of the engineering team, the Assistant Engineer ensures all mechanical systems are appropriately guarded, attachments are fit for purpose, all safety systems comply with PUWER regulations.
The Role Requires:
* Effective collaboration with operations, mechanical, electrical and EHS teams to ensure alignment and efficiency.
* Oversee fabrication and welding activities for bulk handling equipment inclusive of cranes, belt conveyors, chain conveyors, bucket elevators, chutes, hoppers, silos, dust collectors, walkways, gantry's, handrails, safety systems and related components.
* Drive reliability improvements using root cause analysis.
* Ensure minimal downtime through effective preventative and predictive maintenance programs while attending breakdowns promptly.
* Flexibility to respond to operational priorities, including occasional out of hours support.
Main Responsibilities
* Assist the engineering team with day to day tasks inclusive of PPM's, planned and remedial works
* Keep accurate up to date stores lists of spares, consumables and PPE
* Ensure all LOLER and PUWER tooling and equipment is tagged in date and fit for purpose
Essential:
* Lower-level relevant qualification such as an NVQ level 2 in mechanical, electrical or similar discipline
* Excellent attention to detail
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks
* Basic IT literacy (SAP, MS Office)
* Comfortable working at height and within confined spaces
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Keen to learn new skills and contribute to the wider engineering team
Qualifications:
* Minimum level 2 NVQ or city and guilds in engineering discipline, electrical or mechanical
* UK driving licence + Use of own car
* Relevant industry training (Health and Safety, manual handling, working at height, confined space, first aid at work) - Desirable.
