Senior Employment Officer required for our local authority client based in Shropshire



Pay : £14p/h

Hours : 09:00 - 17:00 (37p/w)

Contract Length : 3 months - possibly ongoing



THE ROLE: Shropshire Council's Enable supported employment service have a vacancy for a Senior Employment Officer to help young people aged 18-24 towards and into work.

Shropshire Council is undergoing a large-scale transformation program aimed at 'Creating a better future, which puts improving the quality of life of all local people at the heart of everything we do.

Front line services will be empowered to make decisions on the best form of service delivery and will have control of the necessary resources to do so.

As a member of the Enable team within Adult Social Care, you will support the delivery of the transformation program in line with the Council's vision, values, and strategic objectives.

Enable is Shropshire Council's employment service for people with health conditions or disabilities and has teams specializing in mental health employment, learning disability, and autism employment and employment of young people with SEND.

The Council's Enable employment service will work alongside DWP Work Coaches to offer increased support to young people, helping them move forward at a time of greatly increased challenges, including high unemployment.



The successful applicant will assess and review referrals to the service and advise on future employment and career options, liaise with employers and referring organizations, help with job searching and post-employment support.



The post is based in Oswestry and will co-locate with partners across Shropshire Council and DWP. You will need to be a good communicator with good interpersonal skills focussed on achieving positive outcomes.

You must possess a good level of education. You must have experience of employment or careers work.



Main Duties



* Supervising a youth hub employment team within Enable
* Managing a client caseload
* Ensuring team individually and team performance targets are met
* Working with colleagues to ensure the team functions successfully in support of the Council's corporate and service objectives.
* Liaison with DWP colleagues, local authority colleagues, and external agencies across Shropshire to develop an employment pathway for youth hub clients.
* Advice and support to job seekers before and after paid employment, apprenticeship, traineeship, learning outcome, kickstart placement, or self-employment.
* Assessing individual job seekers' employment situation and their needs.
* Advice on future employment and career options where they are not provided by other agencies.
* Complying with Enable's and the Council's Quality Standards.
* Develop an understanding and awareness of issues related to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice and demonstrate this in carrying out your duties.
* Taking an active part in identified training and development and continuing personal and vocational development activities.
