I am currently working exclusively with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to recruit an Environmental Health Officer
This role is a temporary contract position based in Rotherham and you need to be available for a minimum of 3 months
The post holder will provide investigative, enforcement and other support/intervention services to address the following:-
* Anti-social behaviour,
* Environmental health and other public protection concerns,
* Licensing and enviro-crime to improve home and neighbourhood standards.
This will include supporting policy development, staff development, performance management, champion partnerships, and promoting cross service and generic working.
Key Duties/Areas of Responsibility
* Enforce a range of public protection, environmental and housing legislation to deliver the Council and teams objectives.
* Engage and deliver other interventions such as preventative and educational activities.
* Supervise and allocate work to a team of enforcement officers including Performance and Development, resource allocation and maintaining team standards.
* Maintain a practical up to date knowledge of best practice and developments in all relevant areas, whilst taking a lead professional role in identifying and implementing revised working practices within a specific area of work.
* Contribute to deliver a customer focused service, by involvement in service planning, personal development reviews and assisting in the management of change within the Service, including assessment of options, appropriate consultation and implementation.
* Liaise closely and work with internal services and external bodies and ensure engagement in and promotion of partnership activities to create safer neighbourhoods and safeguarding of those at risk.
* Provide regulatory advice and guidance to the public, other council services and management.
* Provide telephone and other public interface in response to customer enquiries and service requests.
* Investigate service requests, prepare information for management and provide support on larger projects and lead on smaller designated project work.
* Investigate offences, issue legal notices, proceedings and prepare prosecution files.
* Represent the Council at Court and with other bodies, organisations and individuals in relation to public protection issues.
* Carry out work across the borough as and when required and provide cross service support.
About You
* Experience of working in a local authority or other agency enforcement or regulation service, and an understanding of the issues they face.
* Practical knowledge of the legislative frameworks.
* Experience of providing advisory/regulatory advice in relation to enforcement issues within a customer-focused service.
* Awareness of the CIEH toolkit for Taking Action re tackling anti-social behaviour and other professional guidance relating to community protection.
* Knowledge and experience of using community protection equipment such as sound level meters.
* Using a range of computer applications and ICT including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, internet and e-mail.

Certificate of registration with EHRB or diploma in environmental health**
This is a temporary position for 3 months that could lead to an extension. My client are offering an hourly rate of £20.00 - £30.00 per hour (depending on experience).
