Supporting Aberthaw

Supporting Aberthaw

This week our Cardiff team have been visiting Aberthaw B Power Station offering support to employees that are affected by its closure.

The plant in Aberthaw is being decommissioned with closure expected in March 2020. RWE have said this is due to market conditions making the plant’s running unviable. This unfortunately means 186 members of staff are being made redundant.

These redundancies span a wide array of both Skilled and Semi-Skilled workers including Mechanical Fitters and Engineers, Riggers and Plant Operators. There is also a group of Management and Supervisory staff.

As an agency with a large presence in the surrounding area, we wanted to get involved during the consultation period to see if we could help in any way. Having worked closely with the local Job Centre and attending many job fairs across the area, we were recommended to RWE and invited down to assist.

On the 16th we visited Aberthaw to chat with employees and see what we could do to help support them throughout this process.

We were on hand to register anyone that was interested, with the aim of helping to find them some suitable roles. Alongside this, we are also available to contact for any general career guidance, or advice surrounding local firms.

To facilitate this, we have been contacting local companies to see if they are recruiting or willing to take extra staff on.

We managed to register lots of people on the day, however due to shift patterns we were not able to speak to everyone. Because of this we have been invited back in the near future to continue registering people and offer more general support.

Redundancies can be an incredibly stressful and worrying time for many, and we are striving to provide help and support to anyone that wants it. To anyone who does not, we simply offer the best of luck for the future!

Whether you’re looking for a specific role or just want a general chat about what to do next, we’re here.

If you have been affected by something like this or are a business looking for staff – please get in touch!
