Quick-fire Q&A - Derrick Williams

This week we’re talking to Derrick Williams who was recently appointed Assistant Manager of our Sheffield Nursing and Medical team.

He has a long history with Dutton Recruitment and within the field, having started working in Children’s Care for us back in 2007. Now he focuses on recruiting top-quality candidates and assisting with the branch’s day to day operations.

1. What was your first ever job?

My first ever job was a milk round when I was 10. But my first proper job was a Youth Worker in Sheffield.

2. How long have you been in recruitment?

Almost 6 years - I have worked in the office ad hoc at Dutton Recruitment in between my Support work.

3. What's your favourite thing about the industry?

How fast-paced and dynamic it is, it’s great to see positive outcomes when new ideas have been implemented.

4. ...and your least favourite thing?

I wouldn’t say I have a least favourite – I see every challenge as a chance to learn, grow and problem solve!

5. What made you want to join Dutton Recruitment?

I initially started working for Dutton in 2007 in Children’s Social Care before moving on to do this full time. Over the past 6 years I have worked for Dutton on and off doing Business Development, and recently was asked to join full time as Assistant Manager. It was a no brainer for me due to the fast-growing business and opportunities this offers!

6. What's something you can't live without at work?

My team – we can have a good laugh which helps on the more stressful days!

7. Tea or Coffee?

Neither – but I can’t be without some ice-cold water with fresh lemon.

8. What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?

Well, this may get me into trouble as I should say spending time with my girlfriend… But Sheffield United are in the Premiership so it has to be watching them!

9. What is your main goal at Dutton Recruitment?

Increased client satisfaction while we grow, and to look after the team.

10. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

Chennai, India to see my son who is currently out there working for the British High Commission!
