An experienced Shift Engineer for a permanent position with our client in Rotherham. Our client specialises in the manufacture of various types of steel products.





About the role:

The Shift Engineer is responsible for providing technical and management expertise to direct, lead and support a highly skilled, multi disciplined shift team.

Reporting to the Works Engineer you will assist in the efficient running and coordination of the engineering function through delivering and coordinating routine planned maintenance schedules, issuing permits and the coordination of responses to breakdowns, ensuring that maintenance programmes and breakdown response is carried out safely and efficiently across the engineering function.



Working Pattern

Days and Nights - 12 hour shifts 6am - 6pm, 6pm - 6am



Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

* To provide technical engineering expertise to the manufacturing team and department engineers.
* To implement and demonstrate the required approach to safety requirements in the area of responsibility, including the Management of Change.
* To ensure that the team and contractors (where applicable), operate within and comply with company Health, Safety and Environment policies
* To ensure safety standards in the area are maintained and safe working procedures are implemented and adhered.
* Report accidents and raise near miss and hazard reports to improve the safety & health of personnel within the department.
* Ensures that the planned work for the shift is executed in line with requirements.
* Supports the shift manufacturing team and provides a timely response to equipment failures in order to minimise unplanned engineering losses.
* Assists in the development of maintenance and inspection routines with the local area leads, and ensures both injected and planned maintenance is carried out effectively in order to meet safety, quality, engineering and operational requirements.
* To be responsible for team's compliance with thorough recording of plant history and demonstrates that statutory obligations are being fulfilled to help facilitate continuous improvement.
* Engages in the CAMF process to continuously improve plant performance.
* Manages and develops team leaders and Craft within the team to ensure suitable skill sets are retained and improved as necessary.
* Develops and trains the Team Leader to a standard, which would allow delegation of responsibilities and cover when necessary



To be successful within this role you will ideally have the following:

* Recognised engineering qualification (HND or similar).
* Either electrical or mechanical biased with significant experience as a craft person / team leader or similar engineering 'lead role'.
* Experience of leading, managing and coordinating shift teams.
* Experience of PPM systems (for example SAP based maintenance).
* Ability to assist in the development of suitable maintenance routines.
* Good level of problem solving awareness - leading a team on problem resolution.
* Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and understanding technical data.
* Written reporting detailing activities, plant maintenance and reliability.
* Demonstrate good housekeeping awareness and standards.
* Experience of safety legislation and standards.
* Experience of adhering to SWP's, risk assessments, procedures and permit systems.
* You should have a good working knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and how this applies to a Steelworks environment.
* You should be a strong communicator, both written and orally, and confident in dealing with a variety of stakeholders with an ability to develop and coach a diverse workforce.
* The post holder should have good analytical skills and the ability to assimilate, organise and analyse information for logic based problem solving.
* You should be IT literate and have had use of various systems.
* You should be a team player with a flexible approach to work.



Salary - £40,298.49
