Generic Responsibilities



* Provide a consistent and professional HR service which supports the delivery of the Corporate Plan and local People Strategies.

* Actively promote the change in culture and support the ways of working within the Directorate.

* Deliver a service that enables managers to assume their responsibility for all aspects of people management issues.

* Work collaboratively as a member of the HR Directorate to ensure an integrated approach to the development and delivery of HR services.

* Contribute to the operational and planning development of the post holders area of responsibility.

* Contribute ideas and suggestions to enhance HR service delivery and customer experience.

* Contribute and support the future development of HR services and functions.

* Work with other team members and across the Directorate to achieve common understanding of and commitment to the delivery of the Directorate objectives.

* Promote the University's Equal Opportunities and Diversity agenda as an integral part of all Directorate activity.

* Lead and contribute to relevant cross-Directorate initiatives in line with corporate plan priorities.

* Ensure the appropriate escalation of issues and areas to concern to the relevant member of the HR Leadership Group

* All roles will be expected to undertake cross directorate work and any other appropriate duties as required by the Leadership Group





Portfolio and role specific responsibilities



* Supporting the preparation of all payrolls, ensuring that all control and audit checks have been applied within deadlines.

* Check key data input by HR Admin such as new bank details and tax forms

* Checking outputs from control, audit and exception reports to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the payroll and taking action as a result as required.

* Preparing manual calculations and documents for example: adjustments, corrections, Maternity Schedules and KIT days

* Providing professional advice on Payroll, Taxation and NI related issues to employees and colleagues within the University.

* Maintaining a strong working relationship with relevant third parties (for example, pension suppliers, HMRC) by ensuring that queries and monthly returns are dealt with in a timely manner. Collating data for pension providers including scheme leavers and opt outs.

* Creating third party schedules and returns required by third parties, ensuring that they are delivered in a timely and accurate fashion.

* Maintaining up to date knowledge of existing and new payroll affecting legislation.

* Create and send files to HMRC, download files from HMRC

* Maintain the Childcare Voucher scheme and completing the related earnings assessments.

* Providing appropriate support on payroll matters for staff working in the HR Admin Team.

* Ensure that customer queries are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner, and that customers are advised of timescales if further investigation is required

* Liaise with colleagues in the Finance Directorate to ensure the accuracy of data provided to reconcile the General Ledger

* Support the Payroll Manager and Deputy in project activity as required

* Deputise for Deputy Payroll Manager as required
