Engagement & Communications Officer (Waste/Streetcare Team) required for our local authority client based in Gloucestershire.

THE ROLE:

This role will sit within the Strategic Communications team but will work closely to help deliver the aims and objectives of the StreetCare, Transport and Waste division.

This role will take a proactive approach to engaging with residents and communicating changes. This in turn will help manage resident expectations of changes, reduce customer contact and help embed the changes, ensuring savings can be made.

The post holder will be responsible for:

Supporting the Streetcare, Transport and Waste teams to deliver the agreed media, external relations and internal communications strategy and campaign plans.

Undertaking copy writing, reactive and proactive media relations, internal communications and digital content management, as directed.

Supporting in the event of crisis/ reputation management situations, as directed.

Supporting external stakeholder and partner engagement activities, as directed.

Supporting the response to media enquiries and drafting copywriting of news releases and other materials.

Delivering internal staff communications materials (print and digital) at both corporate/ organisational and individual departmental levels.

Undertaking reputation management for the Council, both reactive and proactive, as required and directed.

Liaising with other disciplines across Council departments to gather information and news quickly in order to respond to media enquiries, or for use in proactive media, external relations and internal communications activity.

Preparing and updating of detailed project plans, budgets and reports, as required.

Undertaking campaign measurement and evaluation, against agreed communications objectives and strategy, as required.

Preparing reports/papers for Council meetings and attend as required.

Establishing and maintaining positive, proactive working relationships with internal and external customers.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

You will have or be able to achieve a good understanding of local government and will have worked in a similar service area

You will hold or be working towards a relevant professional/technical qualification.

You will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and engage successfully with contacts and customers.

You will have experience of working flexibly in a team and across different areas of activity.

You will have good numeracy, literacy, report writing, presentation and IT skills.

You will be able to undertake effective research and present findings in a clear, concise format.

You will have demonstrable experience of meeting service standards, targets and deadlines.

You will be able to work cope with competing demands and deliver to deadlines.

You will have a good level of general IT skills and the ability to use appropriate specialist in-house software packages.

If relevant: you will have a proven ability to supervise and allocate work to others, monitoring their performance and taking corrective action.

Able to demonstrate the Council's values and behaviours.
